Normally I don’t do New Year’s resolutions, but that’s about to change. This year I’ve just thrown myself haphazardly at my writing projects. I did manage to get my first book published, but I certainly wasn’t very organized about it. My 2022 New Year’s resolution is to put some method to that madness.
Today I downloaded StoryOriginAuthors’ goal tracking app and set a 2022 goal for writing 50,000 quality words toward my short stories collection. I have no idea if that is reasonable, but I figure that, since I’m still working full time, half of my friend and editor Debbie’s goal of 100K is a good starting point. The modifier ‘quality’ is what really counts for me. That sounded like a lot of words until I dropped the number into the app. Now it seems pretty reasonable!
I think I can certainly manage 137 words a day!
Since I write technical documents for work, publicity releases for the local community theater, and several other writing endeavors, I narrowed my goal down to just counting words toward one specific project, a collection of short stories I hope to publish in book form one of these days. I think this is do-able. I’ll let you know how it turns out!
